Your vote: Cesc Fabregas was Arsenal's player of the season

Yeah, I know, it's not the most shocking headline of the season, but it's confirmation that Arsene Wenger's work on developing a Spanish teenager into one of the world's best midfielders by the age of 21, has proved successful.

A couple of weeks ago I asked you Pies readers who should be the Arsenal captain next season and your resounding answer was Cesc Fabregas. So it's hardly a surprise that it was Fab 4's name that came top in our Player of the Season poll too, with a whopping 41% of the overall votes.

As usual, Cesc is being linked with big money moves to Spain during the summer, with the usual candidates of Real Madrid and Barcelona being touted as his new employers. However, it also sounds like Le Gaffer is ready to offer Fabregas a new big money deal with the Gunners - perhaps extending a contract that is already the longest in the Premier League.

Cesc signed an eight-year deal to remain a Wenger player in 2006 and while there is still a long long time remaining on that contract, the controversial Webster ruling effectively means that he could buy out his deal at the end of next season, so speculation about an improved contract for the Spaniard could be spot on...

Elsewhere in our poll, goal machine Emmanuel Adebayor was runner up, with a 20% share of the votes, while my favourite, Gael Clichy, was third with 17%.

Next was new signing Bacary Sagna with 9%, slightly ahead of Mathieu Flamini on 5%. Mention is also deserved for Eduardo da Silva (3%), who showed us just how potent a striker he is by notching 12 goals and numerous assists before his season was ended so shockingly prematurely. Let's hope his recovery is speedy and that we'll see him in action again early next season.

fabregas is surely the player of the season and the second place is hleb and third is clichy

I would put Clichy above both of them and to put Hleb in second place is just scandelous.

Clichy has been our most consistent player this season. He has improved his defensive skiils and has no equal when attacking and bursting forward. I don't think I've seen him have many bad games this season, hardly any at all.

Fabregas has had a great season and he has worked on his goal scoring which was lacking. Unfortunatley Fabregas slowed down at the end of the seasona dn looked very tired and jaded in some matches and against united he was out staged by anderson. Fabregas is class with more rest and if he keeps improving theres no holding him back to what he can achieve,

Hleb for me has improved alot from last season, but you have to say last season he was pretty crap. It looked like he had overcome his fear of shooting and his his over elberation but this was not the case. Hlebs pleasing on the eye but how effective is he?

For a Winger/ attacking midfielde his goal return is very poor and his assist record is not that great either.

Adebayor should get a mention for the gaols he scored this season. Lets not forget Adebayor was supposed to hold the ball up and get others involved in the play as well as scoring the occasional goal. Van Persie and eduardo were supposed to get most of the goal. Adeyabyor came good when these two were out injured.

One player I nearly left out was flamini, yes he is no longer here for what ever reason so deal with it.

Flamini had a great season not only being one of the best players at arsenal but being one of the best players in the league. He out shone players like essien and gerrard in my opion.

Flamini came into the squad whilst Gilberto who had an oustanding season last term was resting from his copa america exploits. The flamster onc ein the team could not be displaced ad was our best midfielder by far even more so then fabregas in terms of contribution.

Not the most skillfull player but his tireless running, tacking tracking back and forward and getting goals... made him outstanding.
