£30 million for Adebayor: would you take it or leave it?
According to newspaper reports, Barcelona are set to table a "take it or leave it" £30 million bid for Gunners' striker Emmanuel Adebayor in a desperate attempt to take the 24-year-old to the Nou Camp.
Take it. Bite their hand off, is what I say. £30 million for a player who has shown time and time again this summer that loyalty is an alien concept? Arsene Wenger would be mad not to, in my opinion.
If the rumour is true - and let's face it, it's a pretty big if - then there could be a very sound reason why Arsenal are playing hardball on the deal. Barcelona club president Joan Laporta faces a vote of no confidence this Sunday and is anxious to pull something spectacular out of the bag to appease the club's massive membership.
Intense speculation linking Man United's Ronaldo with Barca's arch rivals Real Madrid, has left the Catalan club's fans baying for blood after a disappointing season, but Laporta sees Adebayor as the magic ingredient to kick start his team and he could be prepared to break the bank to do it...
Sports hacks have been reporting that Barca's vice president Marc Ingla visited London early this week, but was sent packing when his £24 million bid for Adebayor was rejected by the Arsenal board.
Meanwhile, Le Gaffer has supposedly slapped a preposterous £35 million price tag on his top striker, according to AC Milan, who have pulled out of the race for the Togolese hitman.
News on Barca's other Arsenal target Alexander Hleb has gone quiet over the past few days, but if Wenger could land £30 million for Adebayor and perhaps use Helb to negotiate a swap deal for the likes of Yaya Toure or Samuel Eto'o (or both), then I don't reckon there would be too many of us Gooners crying into our cornflakes. In our poll earlier this week asking whether Le Boss should fight to keep Adebayor, three quarters of you said no, showing just what animosity last season's hero has built up among us fans in the past few weeks.
So I fear I already know the tone that today's debate will take, but I'll pose the question anyway: Would you take or leave £30 million for Emmanuel Adebayor? And if you'd accept the bid, what would you do with such a large pot of cash? Share your thoughts here.
